Mission and Vision
The Hague School’s mission is to inspire, nurture, and empower secondary students through student-led discussion and a globally focused curriculum, one class at a time. We strive to instill a lifelong love of learning, compassion for humanity, and leadership skills for a global society.
Our aim is to become the leader in international Harkness-centered education. As co-founders of the International Harkness Association, we offer opportunities for our students to interact with each other and students around the world in genuine exchanges through study abroad, shared classes, and multicultural activities and competitions. From International Baccalaureate Programme courses to study abroad programs to interschool classes and international instructors, our students learn that “worldview” and “international mindedness” are lively terms that connect with faces and names, not as places on a map.
The Hague School offers student-centered learning through collaborative Harkness discussions around its conference tables to re-awaken creativity and develop students’ critical thinking, social, and communicative skills in preparation for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme offered during the 11th and 12th grades. The Hague Approach brings contemporary technology to focused Harkness discussion in all courses and all grades.
At The Hague School, there are no rows of desks. Students prepare with a master instructor and come to the table ready to actively participate in facilitated peer-to-peer Harkness discussions. This unique dynamic fosters engagement, creativity, and critical thinking while building confidence. The Hague School faculty includes diverse, experienced educators who blend research-based practices and innovative approaches to learning with experiential coursework in conjunction with local professionals and businesses, giving students real world experience and creating community connections.
