Head of School

As a lifelong educator in Norfolk, Mr. Spencer has served as the principal of Maury High School, the Interim Superintendent of Norfolk Public Schools, and the Headmaster at The Williams School. Intrigued by The Hague School’s pedagogy and potential impact on the community, he came out of retirement to be one of the school’s founders in 2019. For the past five years, he has lived in Morocco where he served as a Head of School for two British International Schools and as a consultant for a management group that owns 22 Moroccan Schools and represents many of the leaders of the country, including the King of Morocco. Offering a wealth of knowledge and experience, he has returned to serve as Head of School at The Hague School where his exemplary commitment to academic excellence, student engagement, and service to the community remains part of the school’s foundation.

Lead Administrator

Mr. Gray is an international traveler who has worked and volunteered in arts education and community development for over 20 years. Mr. Gray has a B.A. in English and Experiential Learning from Longwood University and is completing a Masters in Critical Food Studies at Old Dominion University. He is a regular presenter at the Southern Humanities Council Conference and the Association of the Study of Food and Society Conference. Mr. Gray currently serves on the board of F.E.A.S.T. (Food Education Access Support Together) and the Tidewater Food Alliance–two Hampton Roads organizations dedicated to providing community members with better access to nutritious food and food practices. Mr. Gray is committed to education and stewarding academic success through dialogue and experiential engagement.

Lead Administrator

Ms. Schneider joined The Hague School staff in early 2020. She is a graduate of the former Philadelphia College of Textiles & Science (B.S.), Grand Valley State University (M.Ed.), and Old Dominion University (Ed.S. in Educational Leadership) with licensure in K-12 school administration. Over the past 20 years, she has worked in higher education, Catholic K-8 education, and most recently, as the Assistant Provost of The Hague School. After relocating to Florida, Ms. Schneider now focuses on special projects, financial management, and assisting with logistics and academic affairs.

Admissions Coordinator

Sondra Bashara has a passion for education and helping others. She graduated from Belmont Abbey College with a BA in Business Administration. After graduation, Ms. Bashara joined Continental Airlines as a Flight Attendant until she became a mother of two daughters who now attend The University of Alabama and NC State. After many years volunteering in many different forms in a school setting, Ms. Bashara joined The Hague School in the spring of 2021.

Guidance Counselor

Ms. McMenamin is a VA state-licensed therapist who specializes in working with teens and adults. She earned her BA in English from Dickinson College and her Masters in Social Work from the University of Southern California. She is a VA State Licensed Clinical Social Worker and serves as the school’s guidance counselor. Ms. McMenamin is a former educator, a published writer, and Yoga teacher. She enjoys spending time with her partner and their three children. When she is not at school, Erin works as a therapist in private practice in Virginia Beach.

I.B. Coordinator

Ms. Mouak is a Norfolk native who received her B.A. in English from Mary Washington University and her M.A. in English Literature from Old Dominion University. She has taught writing and literature at Old Dominion University, as well as Granby High School in Norfolk. She has been teaching at international schools in Morocco for the past five years.

Administrator, Digital Content Manager

Ms. Boncal earned an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from George Mason University where she studied the novel and short story under Alan Cheuse. For thirteen years, she was honored to share the transformative power of language and visual art with students in various colleges and universities across Virginia. Twice, she led study-abroad trips to Ireland and Northern Ireland, teaching Irish Literature. After moving back to Norfolk from Richmond in 2021 to be closer to her roots, she found a home in the Larchmont neighborhood and at The Hague School, where she teaches a range of classes and manages after-school programs. In 2023, she led Hague school students on an exchange program in Denmark. Apart from writing and publishing essays, poetry, and fiction, Ms. Boncal is an oral storyteller and painter.
