International Baccalaureate Programme

The Hague School’s application for authorization for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme was approved as of 20 April 2021. The school’s candidacy period for authorization as an IB World School formally began on 1 September 2019 with its inaugural class. This same class became our first Diploma Programme students in September 2021, along with a few students who have joined us along the way. IB World Schools share a common philosophy – a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education – that we believe is important for our students.
No other independent high school in Hampton Roads offers the IB Diploma Programme. At The Hague School, the International Baccalaureate curriculum is combined with the Harkness conference method of instruction, making it unique in the Mid-Atlantic region and one of only a few worldwide. The Hague Approach to Harkness learning aligns with the IB’s aims of creating learners who strive to be: Inquirers, Knowledgeable, Thinkers, Communicators, Principled, Open-Minded, Caring, Risk-Takers, Balanced, & Reflective. We believe these attributes, and others like them, can help individuals and groups become responsible members of local, national, and global communities.
